Classically Unplugged !!
Classically trained Sniti Mishra burst on the national music scene through SaReGaMaPa Singing Superstar 2010. Audiences and judges alike were wowed by her haunting voice and her unique renditions of a wide variety of songs – from Sufiana and old Hindi film numbers to the new uptempo songs.
Industry experts including A.R. Rehman, Mahesh Bhatt, Vishal Bhardwaj, Sanjay Leela Bhansali commented after her performances that they had not heard a “voice and style” as “original” as Sniti’s in a very long time.
At the live Grand Finale show, Sniti won the “remarkable voice of the series” award. Commentators and guests on TV likened the quality of her voice to those of Janis Joplin and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
About Sniti: Sniti holds a Visharad (degree in Hindustani Classical) from the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai and continues to pursue her training in Hindustani classical music even as she completes her MBA in Finance.
Her goal is to deepen her classical training and to lead the younger generation of listeners in India and abroad to appreciate the wide range of music the South Asian subcontinent has produced.
SNITI MISHRA – CLASSICALLY UNPLUGGED: The “SNITI MISHRA – Classically Unplugged” concert is already mesmerizing audiences worldwide, with its 1st time ever presented, unique ‘audio-visual’ presentation, where Sniti and her young semi-Acoustic band recreate unplugged versions of some of the biggest Classical-based Bollywood and non-film hits, and give them their very own ‘simply-fresh’ flavour, while maintaining the essence of the originals.
The band comprises Classical Fusion Guitarist RAVI IYER (who blends Indian Classical and Western music on his custom, double-necked Guitar), Tabla player RUPAK DHAMANKAR (who alongwith Ravi, is an integral part of the Guitar fusion band v-RAVI), Keyboardist AVIJEET SATPATHY & talented young bassist CROSBY FERNANDES.
Her typical set-list includes:
Iktara (Film: Wake Up Sid), Teri Diwani (Kailasa), Sapnon Se Bhare Naina (Luck By Chance), Mora Saiyan (Band: Fuzon), Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (Dil Hi Toh Hai), Mitwaa (Film: Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna), Yeh Mera Diwanapan Hai (Yahudi), In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke (Umrao Jaan), Yeh Haunsla (Dor), Kuch Ajab Khel Kartar Ke (Shafqat Amanat Ali – Coke Studio), Nach Baliye (Film: Bunty Aur Babli)
Through her unique concerts, Sniti has continued to use her classical training to popularize traditional music as well as to innovate musically. Many of the songs listed above, will see the musicians doing some interesting improvised Solos as also some intense jugalbandis, both between themselves and with Sniti, all this while maintaining the pure essence of the songs.
She is currently working towards her Bollywood playback debut as well as her Solo album, which is tentatively scheduled to be released in 2014. Sniti is also touring with the FUSION maestros Louiz Banks & Sivamani with their concept band FUSION ENCOUNTER (more details below).
